As yet no spring without flood in Soomaa

Posted on22. Mar 20143. Apr 2014AuthorAlgis Martsoo

The winter of 2013/14 has been low in precipitation, which begs the question whether there will be a flood this spring at all. Looking back in history, I analysed the data from the Riisa water gauge, located on Soomaa’s Halliste River, sent to my by the Estonian Weather Services (EMHI). I found that actually there Read More …

Great Canoe Trip without guide I called the center the day before, a guide gave us his whatsapp number and we wrote him in the evening for confirmation. It was very spontanious and uncomplicated. The center provided us with life vests, canoes, a map and took us to the starting point which was all very uncomplicated. The river is calm and nice and the nature around it is very beautiful. Definitely worth it, no danger or complications even without guide. Not very expensive also and the stuff is super nice!

Awesome experience! Our self-guided canoeing was majestic, thank you so much for helping us discover the natural wonders of Pärnu region: driving us to Soomaa from Pärnu and vice versa and renting us the equipment (all for 40€ per person).

Great sunset by canoeing We spent three intense hours with our guide, Aivar, canoeing and searching for beavers in Soomaa, after he picked us up in Pärnu. It was the first time we've ever put our feet on a canoe and it was definitely worth it. We had the chance to take some pictures and videos of the sunset, beautifully reflected on the river. We'd absolutely recommend this experience, a truly unique possibility to live nature, its sounds and scents. You should be wearing comfortable clothes.

Evening beaver safari canoo The river is very beautiful in the evening! Our guide was friendly and told us some things about the beavers in the area. When passing through the forest we (of course) were silent. It was exiting looking for traces of beavers..... we saw one eventually (from a distance). The whole trip lasted about three hours. We hoped to see more beavers (and maybe more up close) but understand that wild animals can be elusive....which is also the charm. The price is a little high, but we are glad we made the trip!

Amazing day in the Soomaa National Park Very special day in the nature with our fantastic guide Edu. He knows every detail about Soomaa National Park with its plants and animals. The walking in the bogs, the lunch near the river and the canoeing were amazing experiences which we definately recommend.

MAGICAL NIGHT SAFARI Magic night canoeing along a river in Soomaa National park. We arrived there at 8 pm and we started around 9 pm and we paddled untill almost 12 pm, when the last light of the day was fading away. At the beggining we had some trouble keeping the canoe in the right direction, but the guide was very kind and patient and we learned. The weather was nice, too nice, we were told, to see the beavers, who prefer to show themselves in cloudy nights. In fact we couldn't see any of them. The insects were a bit annoying, but the experience was wonderful: we were surrounded by peace and silence and wonderful colours while the sun was setting. Unique experience!
